SF Area Companies Fined for Improper Handling of Asbestos

At a glance:

Two companies in the San Francisco area were fined a total of $430,000 for two separate instances of improper asbestos removal procedures.  
 
In one, the company, USA Properties Fund Inc., was accused of using unqualified workers to remove asbestos from the ceiling of a residential building, putting the workers and residents at risk of exposure.  
 
In the other, Synergy Environmental Inc. did not properly notify regulators of removal jobs it undertook.


Two companies fined $430,000 for asbestos violations

An asbestos removal contractor and a property management company agreed to pay air quality regulators $430,000 to settle claims they improperly removed asbestos from Bay Area buildings.
 
The fines were the largest asbestos reporting and removal penalties the Bay Area Air Quality Management District has levied, the agency said Tuesday
