Lead Contamination in Missouri to be Cleaned Up by EPA

At a glance:

Residents in a Missouri mining community whose yards and some wells are contaminated with lead will have the contaminated earth removed by the EPA. 
 
The yards of hundreds of homes have tested positive for lead, and that soil will be used as landfill at the site of the former mine. The EPA will put fresh earth in its place. 
 
Twenty per cent of wells in the area were found to have lead contamination, and the EPA will resolve that also. 
 


Feds Warn Potosi Area Residents About Lead Contamination

KSDK) - Two hundred years of mining have created a heath hazard in and around Potosi, Missouri. Elevated levels of lead were found in hundreds of yards and 20 percent of the wells that were tested.
 
Wednesday night, adults and their children were tested for lead exposure as part of a federal cleanup plan for the area. Francis Hawkins was among them. "That's my big concern. These are the only two grandchildren that I have, and I want to protect them," said Hawkins
