New Brunswick Backtracks on Smelter Denial

New Brunswick Government officials now admit that there is a possibility that ground contamination with lead and other heavy metals did result from a local lead smelter and is a cause of residents' health problems. 
 
The Canadian provincial government had been accused of a coverup when they denied the association. 
 
They now say they will study the high rates of cancer in the town of Belledune and will consider lead contamination as a possible source.

Heavy-metal contamination can't be ruled out as the cause of high cancer rates in the Belledune area, New Brunswick officials admitted Thursday.
