Cases of Fungal Eye Infection Confirmed in Tennessee

At a glance:

A Tennessee law firm is collecting cases of fungal eye infection caused by a withdrawn contact lens cleaner, with a view to launching a class action suit against Bausch & Lomb. It was their product, Renu with Moisture Loc, that was blamed for worldwide outbreaks of Fusarium Keratitis, an eye infection that has led to devastating consquences, including blindness, for those infected.  
 
Fourteen cases of the infection have been reported in Tennessee, and an effort is being made to educate the public about the product and its risks.

Case confirmed. One of 14 incidents in Tennessee of a fungal eye infection linked to a popular contact lens solution hails from Hamilton County. "We only had one case reported to us that was lab tested and diagnosed," says D. Marie Stoudemire, an Epidemiology Nurse at the Hamilton County Health Department.
 
In April, Bausch and Lomb pulled the Renu with Moisture Loc brand from store shelves after the C-D-C found a possible link between the solution and fusarium keratitis... a plant-borne infection that can cause blindness. Symptoms include redness of the eye, tearing, blurry vision, swelling, pain, and discharge
