Tiffany settles over teether allegations
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that luxury jeweler Tiffany and Co. has agreed to pay a $262,500 civil penalty to settle allegations that the company failed to report a hazard with its infant teether rattles.
The commission alleged that Tiffany and Co. failed to report that the center bar on the Farm Teether Rattle could break, releasing small beads and animal figures that could cause choking and aspiration in babies. At least three reports of defective solder joints in the teethers were made between November 2003 and February 2004. The company stopped selling them in March 2004
