RJ Reynolds Spokesman Throws Cold Water on Fire-Safe Cigarettes

The State of Illinois is considering a law that would force all cigarettes sold there to be "fire safe", that is, they would extinguish if left alone for 90 seconds.
 
Such laws already exist in New York, California and Vermont.
 
Fire safety experts groups support such laws but a spokesman for the tobacco company RJ Reynolds said that it would cause consumers to become lax about safety as fires could still be set due to carelessness.
