The State of Massachusetts is in the process of banning companies from giving away free samples of tobacco products. The practice encourages young people to try cigarettes, which leads to addiction and serious health problems.  
 
The State is also mandating that cigarettes sold there be self-extinguishing, because cigarette fires are the leading cause of home fire deaths in that state.

BOSTON --Companies may soon be banned from handing out free tobacco products in Massachusetts.
 
House lawmakers gave initial support to a bill Wednesday that would bar the practice. Backers say the free products lure young people into trying their first cigarettes. That can lead to a lifetime of health problems
