Bad Meat from 1993 Blamed for Illness

A lawsuit has been filed almost 13 years after the fact, against several major food companies including Cargill and Con Agra. The claim is that in 1993, a then five year old boy ate hamburger prepared by his mother, which was purchased at Cub Foods Store and became ill with hemolytic uremic syndrome, attributed to E. Coli infection. 
 
E. Coli is a common bacterial contaminant of ground meat. 
 
The boy has been ill ever since, with conditions such as kidney failure as a result of this exposure. 
 
In Indiana, lawsuits involving a child may be filed up until the child's 20th birthday.


Food giants sued over teen’s illness; bad meat alleged

The parents of an 18-year-old Allen County boy have sued numerous agriculture and food companies, alleging their son was made gravely ill by eating tainted hamburger more than a decade ago.
 
Filed this month in Allen County Superior Court, the lawsuit pits Michael Campbell and his parents, Connie and Duane Campbell, against some of the giants of the food industry – Cub Foods Inc., Con Agra Foods Inc., Monfort, Excel Corp., Cargill Inc. and IBP Inc
