Sunscreen Only Does So Much

At a glance:

Being exposed to the sun is not a good idea, even if you do wear sunscreen.  
 
While sunscreens offer some protection against sunburn, their protection against the cancer-causing rays (UVA) is less effective, and using sunscreen can even be counterproductive if you stay out longer because you feel protected. 
 
Lawsuits have been filed against major sunscreen companies for allegedly false claims such as "waterproof" and "sunblock". 
 
Covering up with clothing and not being exposed to the sun longer than necessary are the most important precautions.

Do the words "waterproof" "sunblock" and "all day" make you confident about the sunscreen you wear?
 
Dermatologists say more and more -- it should NOT. They warn that while sunscreen may protect you from getting burned, it's not as effective against cancer-causing rays.
