Cruise Line Lawsuit May Require More Travel

At a glance:

Residents of coastal areas in the US outside of Florida who take cruises from local ports may have a problem if they later have occasion to sue the cruiseline. 
 
Many cruiselines can only be sued in the State of Florida, as that is their home base. 
 
That means that plaintiffs, witnesses, experts, and anyone else who must testify has to physically travel to Florida, as cruiselines fight to hold trials there. This tends to discourage all but the highest claims from proceeding. 
 
The cruiselines say all these facts are disclosed in a booklet that passengers receive with their ticket.
