St. Bernard Parish Opts Out of Class Action

The Council of St. Bernard Parish in Louisiana has decided to opt out of a class action lawsuit against Murphy Oil U-S-A. 
 
Twenty-seven pending lawsuits were consolidated into the class action which claims damages to homes as a result of a crude oil leak from an oil refinery immediately following Hurricane Katrina. 
 
Those opting out of the class action are free to pursue litigation independently.

CHALMETTTE, La. The Saint Bernard Parish Council will not join the federal class-action lawsuit against Murphy Oil U-S-A.
 
The lawsuit stems from a leak at the company's Meraux refinery that dumped more than 25-thousand barrels of crude oil into nearby areas, including about 18-hundred homes, mostly in Chalmette, in Hurricane Katrina's immediate aft
