West Coast Cruise Ship Affected with Gastrointestinal Virus

At a glance:

A Celebrity Cruise ship sailing from Seattle to Alaska was affected with the gastrointestinal virus that has been cropping up on cruise ships worldwide.

It is generally suspected that the virus is brought on board by a passenger, and spreads quickly in close quarters.

Those who fell ill were quarantined to their cabins until they recovered; a pro-rated credit was offered.

Passengers, crew fall sick with Norwalk-type virus

Seattle Post Intelligencer - 6/10/2006 2:25 AM

Patty Thompson thought she and her family were going to see majestic coastlines and whales during their weeklong cruise from Seattle to Alaska. What she didn't expect was seeing the inside of a toilet for two straight days while quarantined with a gastrointestinal bug.

Thompson, her two daughters and 122 other passengers and crew fell sick earlier this week aboard the Celebrity Cruises' Mercury -- the nation's latest major Norwalk-like viral outbreak aboard a cruise ship. It was the Mercury's third voyage in four months to be tainted by mass vomiting and diarrhea.

Comment On: West Coast Cruise Ship Affected with Gastrointestinal Virus

While cruising on Celebrity Lines Millennium ship I was quarantined for 3 days for a G.I. illness. I was not compensated for this. My wife was also quarantined for 24 hrs and not compensated either(she was never sick). What options do I have to be compensated for this disturbance on our cruise. This was from 8-19 through 8-21 of 2008. Thank you in advance for your reply. Tom Byl
