Stent Patent Wars Continue

Boston Scientific has scored a point in their patent war against Johnson & Johnson. 
 
The companies are claiming each infringed the patents of the other with regard to various models of stents, wire mesh devices that are placed inside arteries. 
 
The latest ruling upholds a previous decision that Johnson & Johnson's Cypher stent infringed Boston Scientific's drug coating patent. 
 
More rulings, and appeals of those rulings, are expected.


Johnson & Johnson to appeal stent ruling

JUN. 16 6:53 A.M. ET Cordis Corp., a unit of drug manufacturer Johnson & Johnson, said late Thursday it would appeal a federal court's decision to uphold a previous ruling that its stent product infringed on a Boston Scientific Corp. patent.
 
Johnson & Johnson had asked the U.S. District Court in Delaware to overturn the 2005 verdict. The jury verdict had said Johnson & Johnson's Cypher stent product infringed up a Boston Scientific drug coating paten
