Another Cardiac Device Recall from Boston Scientific

At a glance:

Boston Scientific has issued another recall for its Guidant division, on a variety of cardiac devices: some Insignia, Nexus and Contak Renewal pacemakers; and Ventak Prizm 2, Vitality, and Vitality 2 implantable defibrillators. 
 
A defect was found that could lead to premature battery failure. 
 
Five malfunctions, but no deaths, have been reported in about 27,000 implanted devices. 
 
Doctors have been informed.


Boston Scientific to recall defective heart devices

Boston Scientific Corporation has announced that it is recalling certain heart devices because of defects that could lead to a malfunction.
 
The medical-device maker said the recall includes some lots of Insignia and Nexus pacemakers, Contak Renewal TR/TR2 cardiac resynchronization pacemakers and Ventak Prizm 2, Vitality, and Vitality 2 implantable cardioverter defibrillators or ICDs
