Mothers aren't behind a vogue for caesareans
This article attempts to debunk the current perception that the increase in C-Section births is due to maternal request.
In fact there is no firm evidence that mothers in significant numbers are requesting elective Caesarians (without medical indication) and some evidence to the contrary, in studies.
The authors postulate that the increase is likely due instead to changes in the way Obstetrics is practiced, with fear of malpractice lawsuits bearing some of the responsibility.
