Indiana Nursing Home Fined for Multiple Violations

An Indiana nursing home has been fined more than $34,000 and is being investigated for multiple deficiencies in care, including failure to intervene when patients became violent with each other and with visitors. Inadequate documentation of incidents was also noted. 
 
Hygiene was also an issue, with staff failing to prevent the spread of scabies, a skin infection. 
 
The home, Canterbury Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, is owned by Extendicare. 
 


Nursing home hit with fines

Failure by staff to intervene when residents abused one another led the state to issue its second-most serious deficiency rating to Canterbury Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in May. Regulators also imposed fines of more than $34,300 through today on the home at 2827 Northgate Blvd.
 
“We immediately implemented a plan of correction because it is required by law,” said Sue Ann Shelton, who has been Canterbury’s administrator since September 2005
