Woman Loses Malpractice Suit Over Husband's Death

At a glance:

A jury has found against an Arkansas woman who was suing a surgeon for malpractice regarding the death of her husband. 
 
The patient bled to death internally after surgery to remove part of a cancerous lung. Autopsy showed that hemiclips used to tie off blood vessels had come dislodged. 
 
At issue was whether the surgeon had been negligent in performing the operation.


Jury finds for surgeon in malpractice case

A jury found for the defense Thursday in a medical malpractice suit a Lincoln woman filed against Springdale surgeon James S. Counce over the death of her husband two years ago.
 
The trial began Monday in Washington County Circuit Court and included testimony from expert witnesses H. Gareth Tobler, M. D., assistant professor of surgery at the University of Arkansas College of Medicine, and Hugh Burnett, a surgeon in private practice in Little Rock.
