Pennsylvania Nursing Home Not As Bad As Before, Despite Patient Death

Pennsylvania State Inspectors found 14 violations in an inspection of the Lackawanna County Health Care Center, a nursing home. Reports are that patients suffered frequent falls, and one woman died after falling twice in one day. 
 
Officials say falls are a symptom of staff neglect. 
 
Unsanitary conditions were also noted; however the County Commissioner stated that since the results of this inspection were an improvement over previous ones, he is "satisfied". 
 
No fines are planned, only submission of plans to correct the violations.

Staff neglect at a county-owned nursing home apparently contributed to the death of an elderly woman who died after falling twice while unsupervised, a recent state inspection found.
 
The woman was one of several patients to suffer such an accident this year at the Lackawanna County Health Care Center. While a few residents were physically injured, more of the approximately 260 daily residents also faced substandard care, including poor sanitation and a lack of attention to their complaints, the inspection found
