Judge Decides Attorney Fees in Class Action

Judge cuts back attorneys' fees

Lawyers who brought a class-action suit against the Covington Diocese alleging a 50-year cover-up of sexual abuse have been awarded attorney fees of 22 percent.
 
The lawyers, led by Stan Chesley of Cincinnati, could receive up to $18.5 million if the entire $84 million settlement fund is spent to settle the estimated 350 claims.
 
That is less than the 30 percent in fees - and a potential difference of $6.7 million - that Chesley had argued for during two prior hearings in Boone Circuit Court
