Spitzer Sues Adware Company

New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer has initiated his second lawsuit against an alleged internet adware company, Direct Revenue.
 
The aim is to stop the practice of piggybacking unwanted programs into downloads of other items or having these programs self-install when certain websites are visited.
 
These stealth programs (adware or spyware) may monitor the computer's use and may cause popup ads to appear even when the computer is not connected to the internet.
 
The first such suit was settled with penalties assessed to both the company (Intermix Media) and its CEO.
