Parmalat Lawsuit May Include Actual Company

Defendants in the investor lawsuit against the Italian food company Parmalat may soon include the reorganized company itself. 
 
Up until now, claims were against auditors and banks, who were accused of misleading investors about the company's status. Parmalat itself was in bankruptcy and thus protected.  
 
Plaintiffs have now filed papers in a US District Court requesting the addition of the company as a defendant.


Investors seek to add Parmalat to US lawsuit

NEW YORK, June 2 (Reuters) - Investors who lost money in the collapse of Parmalat SpA filed court papers seeking to add the reorganized Italian food company as a defendant in their civil lawsuit.
 
The suit, originally filed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan in 2004 by Parmalat bondholders and shareholders, accuses the company's auditors and banks of misleading them about the company's financial health
