Delta Petroleum Probed for Stock Option Backdating

Delta Petroleum, a Denver oil and gas company, is one of the latest to be investigated in the stock option backdating probe. 
 
While the company no longer grants stock options, its records for as far back as 1996 have been requested. 
 
The practice, illegal if not properly disclosed and accounted for, has sparked shareholder lawsuits, including at least one class action suit.

Delta Petroleum Corp. said late Monday it's received a subpoena regarding its granting of stock options.
 
The Denver company said the subpoena came from the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York and demands records from 1996 forward. The oil and gas company said it believes the probe comes from having been identified in a May 16 research report.
