American Family, Heritage Sued in North Carolina

The Attorney General of North Carolina is suing two financial services companies that operate in that state for deceptive practices. Roy Cooper alleges that American Family Prepaid Legal Corp. and Heritage Marketing and Insurance Services Inc. preyed on senior citizens, aggressively selling them financial products that were not suited to their needs, misrepresenting facts and discouraging the elderly from consulting with family and other advisors about the investments. 
 
The lawsuit seeks refunds and civil penalties.

Two California-based financial services companies took hundreds of thousands of dollars from senior citizens through deceptive tactics, state Attorney General Roy Cooper said in a lawsuit brought against the companies in Raleigh, N.C.
 
Cooper alleged that agents at American Family Prepaid Legal Corp. and Heritage Marketing and Insurance Services Inc. aggressively coerced elderly individuals to buy living trusts and annuities, even if those investments didn't fit the customers' needs.
