Newspaper companies join in on FEMA fight

On Monday, four newspaper organizations filed a brief supporting The News-Press, Pensacola News Journal and Florida Today in its appeal of a court ruling that allowed the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, to keep confidential the names and addresses of people who received disaster aid after four hurricanes hit Florida in 2004.
 
"We appreciate that AP and others are supporting our effort to compel FEMA to release these records," said Cindy McCurry-Ross, The News-Press managing editor. "The names and addresses we've requested are necessary to determine whether billions of taxpayer dollars were distributed equitably.
