Louisiana to Examine How Insurance Claims Handled

At a glance:

In Louisiana, the Department of Insurance has ordered market conduct examinations of insurance companies Allstate and St. Paul/Travelers. 
 
Due to a large volume of customer complaints, the Department will probe the manner in which these companies handled claims resulting from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. 
 
The Department then intends to review the Louisiana Citizens Property Insurance Corporation, which runs high-risk homeowner insurance coverage for the State, and possibly other companies if warranted.

Lousiana Commissioner of Insurance Jim Donelon announced the Department of Insurance is set to begin market conduct examinations on two insurers, Allstate and St. Paul/Travelers.
 
Donelon said he ordered the exams in response to consumer complaints lodged with the department of how the companies handled homeowners insurance claims filed as a result of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita
