FEMA Fraud Indictments in Central Florida

At a glance:

Twenty-six central Florida residents have been indicted for FEMA fraud. They allegedly defrauded FEMA of $150,000 in bogus claims, as the hurricanes they claimed damage for (Katrina and Rita) did not even hit central Florida. 
 
They allegedly took advantage of a special process designed to get funds to victims as quickly as possible, and now face prison terms of from five to twenty years.


26 Indicted For FEMA Fraud

TAMPA, FL (AP) -- A grand jury indicted 26 Orlando area residents on charges of making fraudulent claims for federal assistance after the two hurricanes that struck the Gulf Coast last year, prosecutors said Thursday.
 
Federal prosecutors say the defendants collected a total of $150,000 in emergency assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, even though they didn't live in the areas affected by hurricanes Katrina and Rita
