Doc's Heart Attack Story Bolsters Merck Vioxx Lawsuit

The ugly side effects of Vioxx and similar Cox inhibitors were revealed first-hand from a doctor who not only prescribed the medications, but was taking it himself.
 
Dr. John Braun is sued Merck for his heart attack in 2004 after taking Vioxx for almost 2 years. Cardiologists subsequently removed a very large clot from Dr. Braun's heart which, the prosecutors plan to prove, was caused directly from his medication use.


Merck Jurors Hear Doctor Who Took Vioxx, Had Attack

Dr. John Braun, 52, sued Merck last year and blames his 2004 heart attack on the Vioxx he said he took for 21 months. Braun is testifying by videotape today at the trial of a lawsuit by John McDarby, 77, who had a heart attack in 2004 after taking Vioxx for four years. Braun prescribed Vioxx for McDarby.
 
"I would never have taken the drug, nor would I have prescribed it to any of my patients, had I known of any of the risks," Braun said yesterday
