More risks for Cox-2 Inhibitors such as Bextra

According to a recent New Zeland medical report, the Cox-2 Inhibitor Celebrex poses greater risks than imagined, increasing heart attackes by a multiple of 2.26 times.
 
Even more interesting is the fact that report further supports the fact that the class of medications, Cox II inhibitors, may be the culprit-- a family of medication to which Bextra belongs.
 
Professor Beasley says, of Celebrex, "drug regulatory authorities need to urgently re-examine the assessment of the drug."

New Zealand researchers have published a meta-analysis suggesting that Pfizer's COX-2 inhibitor Celebrex doubles the risk of a heart attack.
 
The authors said the results, published in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine (March 2006), suggest that the increased risk of cardiovascular side effects that led to the withdrawal of Merck & Co's similar drug Vioxx (rofecoxib) may be
