Heart Attack Survivors Beware of Certain Painkillers

Patients who have already suffered a heart attack need to be especially careful about the type of painkillers they take. 
 
A new study shows that taking Cox-2 inhibitors or even older NSAIDs such as ibuprofen raises the risk of a repeat heart attack, and raises the risk of dying of that repeat heart attack even more. 
 
The risk increased with the dosage taken.

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Among people who have survived a heart attack, taking certain types of painkillers is associated with an increased risk of a repeat heart attack or death, investigators in Denmark have found.
 
The elevated risks apply not only to COX-2 inhibitors (which include drugs like Vioxx) but also so-called nonselective nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen or diclofenac
