Ortho Evra Patch Lawsuit Filed

At a glance:

A lawsuit has been filed against Ortho-McNeil, the maker of the Ortho Evra Birth Control Patch, by a woman who claims she had blood clots in both lungs as a result of using the patch for a year.

The woman was hospitalized with the blood clots in June 2005, but it was not until November 2005 that Ortho issued a warning about the risk of blood clots. They acknowledged that the patch might deliver a larger dose of estrogen than intended, leading to higher risk of clotting and resulting injury or death.
