Statin Side Effects

At a glance:

Cholesterol lowering drugs known as statins have a rare side effect on the nervous system known as peripheral neuropathy. Symptoms include numbness, tingling or burning sensations on the extremities.

Muscle and joint pain is also known to occur. For patients with these side effects, other drugs are available including niacin, WelChol, Tricor and Zetia.

Lipitor Side Effects
Comment On: Statin Side Effects

I was put on Lipitor a couple of weeks ago and just all of a sudden I have developed numbness in all of my toes. Every morning I can barely walk. It is also keeping me up all night as my feet feel so funny. What is worse, having your toes and feet be numb or having high cholestrol? I am very upset over these side effects.
