Merck Scientist Defends Vioxx On The Stand

One of the scientists on the team that put Vioxx on the market testified in court today denying allegations that Merck actively tried to conceal the increased risk of heart attacks in patients taking the medication.
Although it appears that Merck provided information about the risk in the documents they send to the FDA, the information was isolated to a single piece of paper among over 120 boxes of documentation sent with their application. Vioxx was pulled from the market by Merck when reports of a high increase in heart attack risk came to light.
