Increased Awareness of Alemtuzumab-Related Infections Urged
NEW YORK JUL 03, 2006 (Reuters Health) - The infectious complications arising from the use of alemtuzumab (Campath; Genzyme) for lymphoproliferative disorders may be more diverse than originally appreciated from the previously published trials, clinicians caution in the July 1st issue of Clinical Infectious Diseases.
In the paper, Dr. Stanley I. Martin from Ohio State University in Columbus and colleagues report infectious complications associated with alemtuzumab use in 27 patients treated at single institution over a 2.5-year period. Twenty-one of the patients had chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and six had plasma cell disorders
