Watch Out for Expired Medication in Discount Stores

An investigation by an Indianapolis TV station revealed that some discount stores in that area were selling over-the-counter medications including cold pills and antacids that were past their expiry date by as many as 3 years. 
 
Expired drugs may not only be ineffective but may be dangerous. For instance, anything in liquid form may become more concentrated as the water evaporates. 
 
Sale of expired medication is illegal but the law is unlikely to be enforced because of lack of resources; it is important to check labels before purchasing.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Everyone loves a bargain, but when it comes to certain discount stores, buying over-the-counter drugs there could put your health at risk.
 
Call 6 for Help recently found that many of the drugs sold at three local discount stores were past the expiration dates listed on the packages. The sale of expired drugs that have dosage limitations is illegal, and consumption of expired drugs, experts say, could be ineffective
