President Bush Signs Pseudoephedrine Sales Restrictions Into Law

On March 11, 2006 President Bush signed a law restricting the sale of the over the counter cold medication pseudoephedrine. Consumers will be restricted in the quantity of the drug they can purchase in order to curtail the illegal production of the street drug, crystal methamphetamine, which uses pseudoephedrine as one of its primary ingredients. Specifically, individuals will be restricted to purchasing 120 tablets that contain the drug in a single day and 300 pills within a single month. Additionally, retailers will be forced to sell the drug from behind the counter to more closely regulate sales.
