Fen-Phen Settlement One Step Closer

A judge has approved a revised settlement between drugmaker Wyeth and those harmed by its fen-phen diet drug. 
 
According to these terms, Wyeth will deposit $1.275 billion into a new supplemental fund. 
 
Fen-phen, a mixture of Redux and Pondimin, was found to lead to heart valve damage and was withdrawn from the market in 1997. 
 
Wyeth has set aside $21 billion for costs and settlements.


Wyeth gets approval for new diet drug settlement

BOSTON (Reuters) - Wyeth (WYE.N: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Wednesday that it has received final judicial approval for a revised legal settlement related to its withdrawn "fen-phen" diet drugs.
 
The company said the agreement creates a new supplemental fund, into which Wyeth will ultimately deposit $1.275 billion
