At a glance:

A vaccine for lung cancer is in development. It would work by causing the immune system to fight a specific protein that forms on the surface of non-small cell lung cancer tumors, a common form of lung cancer. 
 
It is hoped the vaccine would be available in the next few years.

London - Experts have developed a vaccine which could be used to help save the lives of thousands of lung cancer sufferers.
 
The vaccine is designed to trigger the immune system to attack and destroy a protein on the surface of lung tumours.
