New Law to Help Mesothelioma Victims in Britain Get Compensation

At a glance:

A change in the wording of the British Compensation Bill (in the form of an amendment) should improve the ability of British asbestos victims to receive proper compensation for diseases such as mesothelioma. 
 
Instead of the liability being spread among a victim's various employers, the employers are to be "jointly and severally liable" so that any one of them can be made to pay the employer. That company would then have to go after the other employers for the balance not attributable to them. 
 
Legislation to this effect has been given high priority in the British Parliament.

The government has confirmed that it will rush through legislation to help cancer sufferers get full compensation from a negligent employer even if it cannot be proved that the employer was solely responsible for their condition.
 
Last week. prime minister Tony Blair announced that the government would introduce a new law to overturn the recent decision of the House of Lords on the amount of compensation payable to victims of the deadly asbestos cancer mesothelioma.
