Hospital Finds Surgical Equipment Wasn't Properly Sterilized

A San Diego hospital, Scripps Green Hospital, has been notifying 82 patients who are at risk of having contracted infections because of inadequately sterilized surgical equipment. 
 
This exposes patients to potential infections such as HIV and hepatitis. 
 
The hospital is providing blood tests and follow-up, but the patient interviewed for the article is dismayed that it took the hospital a year to contact him after his surgery. 
 
During that time he could have infected others.

Unsterilized surgical equipment has one local hospital calling 82 patients to get blood tests for hepatitis and HIV. The improperly cleaned tool was used in stomach stapling and heart burn surgeries. Scripps Green Hospital is quick to assure they're taking care of at-risk patients, but one patient doesn't feel that way.
 
Tim Fitzgerald says his surgery at Scripps Green Hospital went well, but he's not happy about what happened a year later. It seemed like a routine call from his doctor.
