Funding for Development of Skin Patch for Parkinson's

NeuroDerm, an Israeli company, has received a grant from the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, to help in the development of a skin patch that gives the Parkinson's Disease patient a constant dose of L-Dopa. 
 
Patients who take the drug in pill form experience variations in blood level of the drug between doses, and in the long run this can cause side effects such as disruptive, jerky movements. It is hoped that a skin patch can lead to a constant level of medication in the blood and better results.

The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research believes that Israeli company NeuroDerm has the potential to offer hope to patients suffering from Parkinson's disease. So much potential, in fact, that the foundation is awarding them a $490,000 grant to aid in research on their transdermal skin patch, used to maintain steady levels of Levodopa (L-Dopa) in patients with Parkinson's disease.
 
L-Dopa is the most efficient drug for the treatment of Parkinson's disease through the skin, and NeuroDerm's sophisticated patch maintains constant blood levels of the drug.
