Merck Sued Over Fosamax

New concerns arise over the class of osteoporosis medication known as biphosphonates. Merck, the maker of one of these drugs, Fosamax, is being sued for negligence in the promotion of this drug by not disclosing an alleged side effect, osteonecrosis of the jaw. 
 
This is a rare but painful condition in which the jawbone disintegrates, requiring reconstructive surgery. 
 
The lawsuit is a class action case, filed in Florida.


Merck under fire again as US lawsuit targets Fosamax

Merck & Co's legal team, already battling to defend thousands of lawsuits alleging injury caused by the company's Vioxx painkiller, will now have to fend off a class action lawsuit alleging Merck was negligent in promoting its osteoporosis drug Fosamax.
 
The new lawsuit, filed in Florida, alleges that Merck has tried to conceal Fosamax' side effects from patients and doctors, particularly a condition known as osteonecrosis of the jaw
