High Blood Sugar After Stroke or Heart Attack Can Be Deadly

A study in the US shows that patients hospitalized for heart attacks or strokes are at greater risk of death if their blood sugar is elevated. 
 
The risk was higher in people who had not previously been diagnosed with diabetes, than in those who had. 
 
Patients with COPD or liver failure, however, do not run the same risk if their blood sugar is elevated.

TUESDAY, June 13 (HealthDay News) -- Stroke and heart attack patients who are hospitalized in the ICU must keep their blood sugar under tight control, a new U.S. study concludes.
 
The study of 216,000 ICU patients found high blood sugar linked to an increase in death risk among certain patients, and that the risk varied according to disease type
