Chewing Gum Diabetes Medication in Development

Metformin, a drug used to treat Type II Diabetes and Pre-Diabetes, may soon be available in chewing-gum form. 
 
A collaboration between Canadian and Danish companies is developing the product, aimed for people who have difficulty tolerating the pill form of the medication due to gastrointestinal side effects. 
 
The drug would be absorbed through the mouth lining instead of the stomach.  
 
Metformin increases the sensitivity of body tissue to insulin.
