Aspirin Plus Dipyridamole, Better than Aspirin Alone

For those who have had mild strokes or transient ischemic attacks (TIA, ministrokes), prevention of further damage is a priority. Researchers have found, in a large worldwide study, that a combination of two drugs, aspirin and dipyridamole, is better at preventing more strokes, circulatory problems or heart attacks than aspirin alone. 
 
Dipyridamole is available as Aggrenox (combined with aspirin) and Persantine. 
 
This seems to confirm the results of two previous studies and gives doctors a definite direction in their treatment of such patients.


Drug May Aid Aspirin After Ministroke

May 18, 2006 -- Researchers have spotted a drug combination that may help survivors of ministrokes and minor strokes.
 
The drug combination is aspirin and the antiplatelet drug dipyridamole. Dipyridamole is found in the drugs Aggrenox (which also contains aspirin) and Persantine.
