Study Indicates Coffee May Lower Diabetes Risk

At a glance:

Good news for coffee drinkers: a new study suggests that coffee may lower the risk of developing type II diabetes; at least in post-menopausal women, which was the group studied.

Lots is good too, with those drinking over 6 cups a day getting the most protection - even more if the coffee was decaffeinated.

Caffeine has other, heart-related risks and doctors do not recommend drinking that much regular coffee. Other components of the coffee bean may be responsible for any diabetes-risk effects.

Additionally, some studies have found that decaffeinated coffee tends to increase LDL (bad) cholesterol.

Risks must be weighed on an individual basis, together with your doctor.
