The toll exacted by "9/11" continues to rise, with the findings that World Trade Center recovery workers are developing cancers at an alarming rate after exposure to a variety of toxic products in the course of their work. 
 
For example, according to a lawyer for some of the workers, the incidence of blood cancer such as leukemia is 100 times the expected rate for the type of population (young, healthy people) who were involved in the cleanup.  
 
Thirty-three responders have already died of diseases including mesothelioma, and brain and liver cancers. 
 

CANCER HITS 283 RESCUERS OF 9/11

June 11, 2006 -- Since 9/11, 283 World Trade Center rescue and recovery workers have been diagnosed with cancer, and 33 of them have died of cancer, says a lawyer for the ailing responders.
 
David Worby, a lawyer for 8,000 World Trade Center responders, including cops, firefighters and construction workers, said the cases include blood-cell cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's and myeloma.
