Two Canadian residents are the lead plaintiffs in a class action suit against General Motors. 
 
The suit, asking for nearly $1.5 billion in damages, concerns most GM cars built between 1995 and 2003, and involves a defect in the intake manifold gasket. 
 
The defective part allegedly leads to engine coolant leaks and eventually overheating and engine damage. The plaintiffs contend that GM was aware of the problem due to repair records and a similar suit in the US, but continued to build cars with the defect and charged customers for repairs. 
 
The Canadian class could potentially grow to over 300,000 plaintiffs. 
 

Martensville man launches class-action suit against GM

A resident of a bedroom community north of Saskatoon is taking on one of the world's largest automakers in a national class-action lawsuit demanding $1.4-$1.5 billion from General Motors.
 
The suit, filed last week in Saskatchewan Court of Queen's Bench, accuses GM of being "malicious, deliberate and oppressive towards their customers" and conducting business "in a wilful, wanton and reckless manner.
