Elderly Couple Settles with Amtrak Over Train Crash Injuries

A Pennsylvania couple who were injured in an Amtrak train wreck in 2002 have reached a settlement in their lawsuit. 
 
They were riding Amtrak's auto-train from Florida to Virginia when it crashed, and their car turned on its side. The couple, both elderly, sustained back and kidney injuries and cuts and bruises. Four on the train were killed. 
 
The NTSB found that equipment used to maintain the tracks had been faulty. 
 
The couple settled for $150,000 from defendants Amtrak, CSX Transportation Inc. and the National Railroad Passenger Corp.

A Nanty Glo couple injured in an auto-train wreck have reached a $150,000 out-of-court settlement just days before the case was to go to trial.
 
Robert R. and Ida M. Simmers were riding Amtrak’s auto train that crashed near Crescent City, Fla., as it was traveling from Florida to Virginia on April 18, 2002.
