SUVs Implement New Safety Features in Wake of SUV Rollovers

SUVs do not have the best safety records and to combat that perception several automakers are launching new SUVs with improved safety equipment to prevent SUV rollover accidents. Toyota, in particular, is blazing the safety trail with its Star Safety System. This new system now includes five safety features as standard equipment on all SUVs. The features include Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist.

Though many consumers feel more secure in an SUV, independent vehicle tests show that the size of SUVs, along with higher ground clearance and heavier weight, often makes them less maneuverable than passenger vehicles.
