Ford Explorer and Ford Sport Trac Get Best Crash Test Ratings in 2006 with Mercury Mountaineer

The Ford Motor Company proudly announced their high ratings on the Ford Explorer and Ford Sport Trac from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety relating to their frontal offset crash test results. The vehicles got the highest scores possible and with the NHTSA's crash test ratings for frontal and side impact crashes and this new rating supports the Ford Motor Companies' increased efforts and awareness to safety. Although the Ford Explorer has improved year over year for rollover statistics, it still maintains only three out of five stars.
 
The 2006 Ford Explorer and the 2007 Sport Trac earned the highest safety rating possible from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety for frontal offset crash testing. Although the Ford Explorer still earns only three out of five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for its 23% rollover rate, this crash test rating is a positive sign for the automaker.
